For some inexplicable reason, Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way” was used as background music for “Best Breakthrough Athlete” at tonight’s ESPYs. This isn’t the first time the song has made its way into a sports broadcast, having been used in CBS’ NCAA tournament highlight montage.

Beyond its status as a gay anthem, it’s somewhat puzzling why a song about the natural gifts one is granted by their creator is relevant to a sports broadcast. Blake Griffin won tonight’s award, and not only was he not born 6 foot 9, but he reached his rookie of the year status through hard work and dedication. To indicate otherwise is to cheapen the accomplishments of these athletes and undermine the hustle, drive and hard work that make sports great to watch.

But what do I know? This was a great year for sports anthems, and it’s time to let your voice be heard. So what was the best sports song of the year? The triumphant “All I Do is Win”? The Steelers and Bruins-specific “Black & Yellow”? The reflective “All of the Lights”? Or was it the song featuring a “drag queen” chant that ripped off Madonna to pander to the same demographic as “Express Yourself”. Let us know.

Here’s the trailer for Will Ferrell’s new movie, EVERYTHING MUST GO. His costar in this flick is CJ Wallace, but you may know him better as Biggie’s son with Faith Evans. The movie was shot on location here in Phoenix, and, True Story, I almost auditioned for the part CJ got. The casting call asked for “overweight African-American boys”, and I really liked that one audition story Trent told in SWINGERS.

I did this mashup of Rebecca Black’s “Friday” and the seminal F. Gary Gray-directed, Ice Cube and Chris Tucker-starring Friday on Monday.
