On Saturday, August 20, I went out in search of the community car washes that are a staple of the monsoon season here in Phoenix. From Maryvale down through Central to South Phoenix, I came across five stories that, when taken as a whole, will hopefully give a little insight into the importance of these grasroots events.

It’s been a few months since event planning firm MODALEW celebrated its first anniversary at Tempe’s Aloft hotel. Some might say we took our sweet time putting this video together, but we’re of the opinion that the video couldn’t have dropped at a better time.

See, this Saturday, D. Lewis and his team will celebrate “A Love Supreme” at DISCO Nightclub in Scottsdale (4301 N. Civic Center). As you can tell by the video above, MODALEW brings an amazing array of beautiful and creative people together for one-of-a-kind events. Just as was the case for the anniversary celebration, there’s no cover for anyone in the 21+ crowd, but fashionable attire is an absolute must.

As a matter of fact, the flyer below seems to suggest that the most well-heeled partiers will receive preferential treatment at the bar. So wait, are you saying that there are benefits to being one of the beautiful people at a nightclub? Ohh, now I get it, I’ve been doing it wrong all this time.

Modern Family is an exceptionally well-written, superbly acted sitcom that manages to both honor what we love about situation comedies while eschewing the conventions that damn near killed the format in the last decade. Wednesday’s season two premiere episode featured such brilliant lines as “I don’t think I would be a very inspiring disabled person” and “It was my Vietnam. And I was in Vietnam.”

That said, the best eleven-second stretch of last night’s episode was Sofia Vergara mixing salt into her chocolate milk . Don’t feel bad about watching this video or gif over and over again just to see her breasts shake. I have it on good authority that Shia Labeouf broke his DVR rewind button listening to Sofia saying his name all Colombian-ey in this very episode.
